Celebrate Easter with the Northwood Congregational Church!

Celebrate Easter with the
Northwood Congregational Church!

Palm Sunday begins our Easter Celebration.  We move our worship service back upstairs to the sanctuary.

Maundy Thursday falls on the Thursday before Easter and commemorates the foot washing and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Disciples.  Join us as we share soup and bread at 6:00 pm, followed by a communion service in the Garden of Gethsemane at 7:00 pm.

We celebrate Good Friday in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary.  We will do this by joining the Deerfield Community Church in carrying the cross at 15 Church St in Deerfield at 7:30 pm.

Celebrate the dawn of a new day on Easter morning with a Sunrise Service by the lake.  Join us on the shore of Harvey Lake behind the church at 7:00 am.

The Northwood Congregational Church celebrates Easter in the sanctuary at 9:00 am.  Join us as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ.

There will be fun for the kids on Easter Sunday morning, with an Easter egg hunt during Sunday School.

40 Days of Lent

The forty days of Lent has begun.

You can read more about what lent is and why it is important at this website.

https://40acts.org.uk/about/what-is-lent/

During lent we have a number of activities that you can engage in. We use this as a time of preparation, a time of anticipation and a time of reflection.  Whatever you can do to create space and time in your life to reflect on the life, the death and the resurrection of Christ... do more of that.

Prayer Shawl Ministry All interested in learning to knit and those who can knit/crochet are welcome. Join us beginning March 11-April 22  from 10:30-12:30 at the Church Fellowship Hall for fun and knitting or crocheting. A pattern will be provided.  Contact Norma Heroux or Pastor ReneĆ©.

40 Days of Cleansing During the days of Lent, not counting Sundays. All are encouraged to bring in lightly used clothing items, furniture for those in transition from homelessness to moving in apartments. Please contact Margie Nickerson for more information. She will need help transporting items.

Extravagant Hospitality During This Lent Season, we as a Church are going to attempt to practice the text below.  Write it on index cards, place them in your bathroom, car, in your wallet, anywhere we will see it to help us remember to modify our behavior.  During Lent we will ask God to help us to be better at loving as God loves.  Let us begin the journey of Extravagant Hospitality toward those we love in our own homes, workplace and the stranger on the road, anywhere we encounter challenges.  40 days of intentional Extravagant love.
"Love endures with patience and serenity (patience=long suffering} Love is kind and thoughtful and is not jealous Love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant Love is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked (easily angered) it does not take into account wrong endured  (keep record of wrong toward us) it does not rejoice at injustice but rejoices with the truth" 1 Corinthians 13:4-6 (The Amplified)

Book Study! We will be reading the book "Waking Up White by Debbie Irving"  We will be reading this book as a church during the Lent Season and have small group discussion groups at different times determined by a sign up sheet.  Begins March 10th-First Sunday of Lent.  See Pastor ReneĆ© for your book.

"Waking Up White is the book Irving wishes someone had handed her decades ago. By sharing her sometimes cringe-worthy struggle to understand racism and racial tensions, she offers a fresh perspective on bias, stereotypes, manners, and tolerance. As Irving unpacks her own long-held beliefs about colorblindness, being a good person, and wanting to help people of color, she reveals how each of these well-intentioned mindsets actually perpetuated her ill-conceived ideas about race. She also explains why and how she's changed the way she talks about racism, works in racially mixed groups, and understands the antiracism movement as a whole. Exercises at the end of each chapter prompt readers to explore their own racialized ideas. Waking Up White's personal narrative is designed to work well as a rapid read, a book group book, or support reading for courses exploring racial and cultural issues." (Goodreads)
